ALLISON JOANNE CRAWFORD

Previous Exhibit:

ABOVE / BELOW

My current work was inspired while free-diving on the west coast of Haida Gwaii, and is entitled Above/Below. Above/Below was originally published as a collaborative photo-essay in Northword Magazine and has since evolved into a group exhibit. The series explores the experience of submerging into the underwater world and the changing geometry and contrasting movement of the west coast waters. I use a combination of mediums including watercolours, pastels, acrylics, spray paint and ink. All pieces are hand painted, original pieces, and include a hand-crafted red cedar frame made by Joseph Crawford. This series was on display at the Smithers Art Gallery in February 2019 and will be on display at the City Building Design Lab, School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape, University of Calgary, August 2019.
